Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself

I've always had a burning desire to help people and make a difference in the world. I didn't know how I could do that in modelling when it can be such a fake world, but the CAS gave the opportunity to help some underprivileged kids by teaching them the basics of what they are going to gain in their further future which is none other than KNOWLEDGE. We had visited a construction just besides our school boundary line, there we noticed a small cottage which had been transformed into a school. Watching this we had a talk to the site in charge regarding this and we were told that these children belong to the workers working at the site. As they cannot carry their kids along with them as it is dangerous so we they take care of the kids and also educate them at no cost.

After returning to the school an idea clicked into our minds, that, what if we also lend them our helping hand, so we had a talk with our CAS co-ordinator about this and they approved the idea and had a talk with the site in charge, they allowed us to teach them. So we set up a time table for the kids with reference to our time table and adjusting our CAS lectures in the week. The kids used to come to our school twice a week and we had divided the two given lectures into parts and went t teach them time by time. The kids were from the pre-primary till the 5th standard. So before the activity started we had made a plan listing all the all the names of the kids according to their classes. We had decided many activities to be held for the children for their learning process. The activities consisted of learning and recognizing alphabets for the pre-primary students. I had taken up the lower classes because I like to be with the smaller generation.

We had prepared and also performed successfully many activities. These activities included-
1.     Completing worksheets of colouring and basics of letters and alphabets.
2.     Showing them different animations without sound and asking them to explain the stories as they understood.
3.     Decorating small candles for the occasion of diwali and many such more.

When we were introduced to this activity by our CAS coordinator, I was a bit scared to take up the duty of teaching because i wasn’t confident enough to teach the toddlers. The first day i met the kids and started to teach them, I was completely blank, but somehow I managed it and after that i was feeling very relaxed. Gradually, as the activity continued further I overcame the phobia and was able to teach the kids really easily. Also I got really familiar with the kids and the kids were not at all hesitant to talk to me.

At first i was hesitant about, what if I teach the little kids something wrong? But now I am confident and I can say that “what it may be the situation forward of me, i will always teach and spread the right knowledge in the right way.”

Cycling to School

Cycling can be lonely, but in a good way. It gives you a moment to breathe and think, and get away from what you're working on. There's a certain amount of freedom involved in cycling: you're self-propelled and decide exactly where to go. If you see something that catches your eye to the left, you can veer off there, which isn't so easy in a car, and you can't cover as much ground walking. For me, cycling is one of my most prior hobbies and one of the best ways to keep you fit. Cycling helps refresh your mind and have a peaceful time. Whenever I am in a need of some time alone, I get my bicycle out and go for a ride to some peaceful place or a place where no one can disturb me. I believe cycling is a kind of yoga for me because i feel relaxed and refreshed after I take a ride on my bicycle. You also get to address the atmosphere and nature around you while you are cycling as you go on as per your wish and there is no one to direct you or force you to go on and on.
Cycling is a mutual hobby between me and my classmates Shafqat and himanshu. We were told about extra classes at our school, and as our school is situated far from our places we decide to have an adventure cycling all the way to our school. We asked for permission from our coordinator to allow us to cycle to the school, even our coordinator was happy that we are promoting such kind of sport and he agreed on this and also asked us to get a written permission from our parents, and we did so. Our school is around 16 km from our homes, so cycling for so long was the first time for me. Being a risk taker i was ready for the activity.

The day arrived and as decided we had to leave early morning to reach our school in time. We had decided a meeting point on equal distances from our respective homes. We were on time at the meeting point and departed from there immediately. It took us around half hour to reach our school. after arriving at the school all of the people in the school were shocked to really cycle all the way to the school from the most busiest street of the city. This was a new challenge we undertook and we worked collaboratively to complete this task.

Hindi Diwas or the Hindi Day

Hindi is the most widely spoken language in India. It is almost spoken in every single part of the country. People use this language also to trade or business. To acquaint people about all the information about the language, we the CAS student decided to present an assembly before the school about the Hindi Day or the Hindi Diwas. We planned a proper format of the assembly and divided work amongst ourselves. We decided, as the assembly is being done on the occasion of Hindi Day, why not present the complete assembly is front of the school in the same language. We took help from our Hindi teacher to complete the assembly as we were in a need of expert guidance. We finalized the format of the assembly and presented a practice in front of the Hindi teacher so that she will help us with few things such as the corrections in the language being used and what all additions can be made. After all the corrections and additions we presented the assembly in front of the whole school and everyone was really impressed of our work and our Hindi teacher was happy that her language has being recognized.

Hindi is a standardised and sanskritised register of the Hindustani language. Hindustani is the native language of most people living in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Modern Standard Hindi is one of the official languages of India. As of 2009, the best figure Ethnologue could find for speakers of actual Hindustani Hindi was 180 million in 1991. In the 2001 Indian census, 258 million (258,000,000) people in India reported Hindi to be their native language. However, this number included millions of people who were native speakers of related languages but who thought of their speech as a dialect of Hindi.

Volunteering at medical camp

I am not biology or any medical student, as I undertook this activity. It is just that I like providing a helping hand to people. I love to help people because it gives me immense pleasure and happiness when the other people are happy. As planned we were going to provide our help as volunteers at a local medical check up camp organized by the Nagarjuna Medical Trust, at a local society in the city. Mrs. Preeti Mesharam, one of the doctors in the medical camp is a specialized eye surgeon. I was given the duty along with my classmate Shafqat, to provide a helping hand to Mrs. Preeti Mesharam at the point where she had been performing the eye checkups. Different doctors were allotted different rooms to perform their checkups.

The check up was conducted by the trust for the residents of the society and was free of cost. We had to assemble all the people who were coming for the check up according to their form number and name outside the check up room and call them one by one whenever their form arrives. Many a times people were getting annoyed by the delay that was happening as there were a lot of people who had come for the check up and it was getting difficult to handle so many people at a time by just the two of us. For our help we called our friend stanis as he was done with his volunteering and was ready to help. Through this activity we learnt a lot of new things and we reflected on many of the CAS learning outcomes that we need do during the CAS program. The learning outcomes I achieved through this activity included working collaboratively with others, showing perseverance and commitment on the activity and also engaging with a social and issue of global importance.
A Certificate we received from the Nagarjuna Medical trust for the activity we undertook
